Hypno-Anesthesia

Hypno anesthesia is one of the most wonderful phenomenons brought about by the Hypnotic Trance. During my initial studies in the subject I was surprised to learn about the strange fact from a book of hypnotism which I had borrowed from city library. A press clipping from some news papers was reproduced there. It said Dr. James Esdaile who had been working in a reputed hospital of Kolkata, in the old times, experimented with administering hypno anesthesia to patients operated upon by him, instead of medicinal one. It was stated in the clipping that the patients who underwent minor to major surgeries by Dr. James Esdaile did not feel even a little pain in major cases of surgeries from limb/eye amputation to open abdominal surgeries. Does it not sound wonderful ? Medicinal anesthesia some times has its own complications which could be avoided by administering hypno anesthesia.
Then I have read of Dentists using hypno anesthesia in extracting tooth in patients who already were hypnotic subjects. Suppose Ms. Lisa was having severe pain in one of her teeth. She went to her dentist for its extraction. But on examining the teeth of Ms. Lisa, doctor found that it was very much sensitive to touch, she was not allowing him to even touch her paining tooth, what to say of treatment. Suddenly as she recollects that she was a hypnotic subject to Dr. X and was achieving deep trance almost instantaneously, she explained this to the Dentist. She then called her Hypno therapist over phone and told him the problem. Then the Hypnotist and the Dentist had a conference. After enquiring how much time was required to extract the tooth, the hypnotist put Ms. Lisa in trance over telephone and suggested anesthesia to all of his teeth and that the anesthesia will remain active for 15 minutes. He also wisely suggested that during the time of anesthesia her mouth shall remain wide open and she will only be able to close after the anesthesia deactivates.
She sat on the dentists chair comfortably, at the suggested moment her eyes closed, head dropped back. The dentist adjusted the head to the desired position. Five seconds after, she opened her mouth wide which did not close back. The dentist, who was directed by the hypno therapist identified the proper moment and after confirming anesthesia in her mouth area, extracted the tooth without any trouble or pain being felt by the lady. After which he applied bandage to stop bleeding. Exactly after elapsing of 15th minutes Lisa closed the mouth. Few seconds after she opened her eyes and looking at the extracted tooth lying in the near by trey she understood that the work has been done quite peacefully.
Similarly in the field of child delivery experiments have been known to be made in the advanced countries. Putting the would be mother in trance, suggestions regarding anesthesia in concerned areas are given. It has been learnt that using this technique almost painless deliveries have been observed I myself am very much interested to perform such experiment here but alas! Not being connected to medical profession remained the greatest taboo in fulfilling my desire. However I have hypnotized one student , Named Arti and experimented anesthesia over her hand. To my surprise, and also to those others present including mother of Arti, the back of left hand became numb in just five minutes of suggesting. Though Ms Arti did not enter in deep hypnosis at that time. We just pulled the skin of the backside of left hand, but she showed no sign of pain. Arti was very sincere student and my favorite one . I have performed many experiments with his at her own home in presence of her mother and other co-students.

Once it so happened, I was going regularly to Natural Cure Hospital Jammu to see the Natural Therapist there, namely Dr. K. Bapukumar who was a master in his field. Also being interested in Natural Cure, I was a regular visitor to see the treatment being given to patients. Dr. K. Bapukumar became interested in Hypnotism and started learning from me. A teen aged boy who was the son of Smt. Vedvati Ghai who was then holding the prestigious post of Head of the Department of Sanskrit, Jammu University. The boy urged me to teach him the basics of hypnotism but I asked him (being teen aged child) to obtain permission from his parents before I start teaching him. He requested his mother who by chance had come there to see a patient and probably was a trustee of the Hospital also. But she forbade her not to learn such a thing the results of which seemed to be like black magic. Such a view received from such an intellectual really shocked me. It might not have hurt me had she forbidden her son to learn Hypnotism viewing it as a hurdle in his academic studies. She might have asked him to complete the studies first then learn. But the straightforwardly rejected his proposal explaining this science as black magic or witchcraft. What could be expected from the uneducated masses in my country?
Hypno anesthesia could be applied, in my opinion, usefully in many situations for the betterment of the human race to obtain some respite from physical and mental pains caused due to stressful living.
